Imperial War Museum North

Housed in an iconic building designed by Daniel Libeskind on the edge of the Manchester Ship Canal the museum explores the impact of modern conflict on people and society and was opened in July 2002.

Just a few minutes walk from our Salford Quays drop off this is an excellent way to spend some time while at the quays having taken advantage of our hop on off on our City River Tours.

What do I need to know?

Entry to the museum is free but a donation is appreciated. There is an onsite cafe, toilets as well as gift shop.

  • The museum is open every day from 10am – 5pm including Bank Holidays
  • Last admission is 30 minutes before close
  • The museum is closed on 24, 25, and 26 December
  • They can be contacted at 0161 836 4000 or through their customer portal. International callers can contact +44 (0)161 836 4000.
  • The Air Shard gives a great view over Salford Quays and is accessible for small charge
  • Three main permanent exhibits; “Large Objects” incl Harrier Jump Jet & Soviet Tank, “Big Picture show” an hourly 360 audio visual experience and “Silos” six separate exhibits looking at different aspects of war.
